Canadian Integration Policies and the Welfare State

Canada is known as a classic country of immigration, with most of its inhabitantsoriginating from European countries and only a minority of indigenous people. Withan immigration history similar to the USA it became, however, more hospital tonewcomers than its southern neighbor. Especially in public discourse, Canadianimmigration and integration policies are perceived as welcoming and successful. Inface of rising numbers of immigrants to Europe, politicians, researchers and othersdiscuss implementing a point system – similar as in Canada – that would channellabor migration and advantage the highly skilled (Thränhardt, 2014) and thus bebeneficial for both immigrants and receiving country.
